I came to Devon in 1981 to help David Temple and John Malseed build a progressive, innovative and professional veterinary practice to serve our rural community. I have seen the practice grow to what is now an independent multi vet business that maintains the principle of providing an effective, dedicated veterinary service to all our clients.
My own interests have developed into becoming a dedicated cattle vet, as well as overseeing the management of the business. Ensuring all three departments – farm, equine and small animal – function and deliver the care that our clients expect.
I have been fortunate to be able to develop special interests in infectious disease management and whole herd medicine, and now manage to travel the country and the world to teach and learn. I have been generously rewarded for my efforts with some prestigious awards from the agricultural and veterinary communities, but my heart remains in West Ridge and the health and productivity of the animals in our care.
Claire joined West Ridge in September 2008 following a 12-month Farm Animal Internship at the University of Bristol.
As Lead Farm Vet, Claire spends most of her time working with our dairy and beef herds to maintain health and improve productivity, although she still enjoys the variety of mixed practice life, occasionally dabbling in the odd small animal surgery or equine call!
Outside of work, Claire enjoys walking her dogs, riding her horse and managing her small flock of sheep.
Geoff has been at West Ridge since qualifying in 1999 and has become a core member of the large animal team.
He holds a GP Certificate in Equine Practice and enjoys all aspects of equine medicine particularly fertility work including stallion semen collection, and mare insemination with fresh, chilled or frozen semen.
He also has expertise and experience in farm work and is able to provide our bovine clients with an embryo implantation service.
In his spare time Geoff enjoys gardening and spending time with his family.
Nicci studied graduate veterinary medicine at The Royal Veterinary College in London and qualified in 2013. She joined the farm animal team at West Ridge in March 2014 and has been here ever since! Nicci loves all things sheep but has a particular interest in lameness and flock performance.
Outside of work, Nicci enjoys riding her spotty horse Trigger, running a small flock of sheep and looking after her many other pets, including Peggy the three-legged Collie and 8 cats! She also loves live music and crams as many gigs and festivals as possible into her social calendar!
Tom joined West Ridge as a senior farm vet after practicing for a number of years in Somerset. He enjoys all aspects of farm animal veterinary work, but has a keen interest in dairy cow health and production.
Outside of work, Tom enjoys exploring the countryside with his wife, son and dog, Tilly.
Romas joined the practice in November 2019 as our dedicated TB tester.
He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, a cheery smile and an efficient and professional TB testing service.
Hello my name is Jamie. I am a newly qualified ATT (Approved Tuberculin Tester) and Vet Technician. Wednesdays are my Vet Tech days which allow me to carry out a variety of tasks from disbudding, dehorning and taking bloods to data collection and mobility scoring.
I live on a family-run beef and sheep farm where I enjoy working in my spare time.
James joined the practice in February 2021 as an intern having graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2020.
He enjoys all aspects of farm and companion animal work, with a particular interest being cattle lameness investigation, treatment and prevention.
In his spare time, James’ main interest is competitive target rifle shooting, which has taken him all over the country to various competitions and leagues. He also tries to get out into the great outdoors as much as he can!
Gordon originally joined West Ridge Vets in 1985 and worked in mixed farm and equine practice for 11 years.
Despite focussing on equine in the interim years, Gordon returned to West Ridge in 2013 still keen to be involved in farm work alongside equine. He has a wealth of experience in farm animal medicine, managing the health and fertility of some of our dairy herds, and attending emergency calls.
Meg joined the practice in 2017 as the TB administrator and farm animal receptionist at our Witheridge branch.
When not in work she enjoys riding her horse and walking her dogs.
